RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT CORPORATION "MIG"
- corporation for the future of Russia

Company capabilities

INTELLECTUAL, SCIENTIFIC AND R&D CAPABILITIES

Russia is known worldwide for its non-compromising approach to obtaining the highest performance from an aircraft, along with designing in reliability, robustness, maintainability and the strong potential for upgrading the weapon systems that built around aircraft developed by the country’s design bureaus.

Long-lasting corporate and personal relationships with subcontractors, research institutions, governmental officials and customers are the key to creating the favorable environment where truly advanced aircraft can be developed. MiG Corp. is proud of its strong and friendly relations with military customers around the world.

MiG Corp. has managed to maintain its high scientific, design and manufacturing potential even during the transition period when the number and intensity of cutting-edge military programs were reduced drastically after the end of Cold War. Numerous in-house R&D programs made a significant contribution to MiG Corp.’s ability to maintain its scientific and technology advantages.

In recent years, MiG Corp. completely renovated its computer systems used for R&D and manufacturing processes. New computational methods have been developed and implemented for aerodynamics, fluid dynamics and structural strength calculations. A new generation of designers is actively developing 3D computer aided design/manufacturing/engineering systems.

New human-machine interface concepts are being developed, bringing together the specialties of avionics, human factors and engineering psychology in complex cross-linked data processing loops and decision-making procedures.

A unique combination of seasoned specialists with decades of design, development and operational experience on numerous aircraft, and young employees with new ideas and a state-of-the-art approach to design and development is providing the strong foundation for MiG Corp.’s success in its projects.

EXPERIMENTAL CAPABILITIES AND FLIGHT TEST RESOURSES

MiG Corp.'s own proven test facilities are now integrated in the Mikoyan Design Bureau Engineering Center, providing a full range of ground and certification flight tests for prototypes of the most advanced aircraft.

The corporation’s experimental facilities, which are located on the grounds of the federally-run Gromov Flight Test Institute, give MiG Corp. the capability to undertake the simultaneous flight test certification of several aircraft types. MiG Corp.'s flight test/development facilities are able to support peak activities, handling hundreds of hours of flight tests monthly while processing test data in real time. Today, more than a dozen jet aircraft are based at MiG Corp.'s test facilities.

MiG Corp.'s test pilot school, formed under leadership of chief test pilot Alexander Fedotov as an independent school of flight test activities in late 1960s, is highly respected in Russia. MiG Corp.'s test pilots have the qualifications and practical experience to undertake successful flight tests programs with all types of aircraft – ranging from civil and military aircraft to reusable spacecraft.

MiG Corp. is able to undertake large-scale aerodynamic and fluid dynamics studies, including complex airframe/powerplant integration and fine-tuning of aircraft aerodynamic configurations at speeds ranging from low subsonic speeds with complex vortex systems to high hypersonic speeds in and out of the Earth’s atmosphere. This is the result of MiG Corp.’s fruitful multi-decade cooperation efforts with Russia's leading aircraft research and development institutions, including the Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute (TsAGI) and the Siberian Aviation Research Institute (SibNIA).

Similarly, successful cooperation is long established with other Russia's federal research centers: GosNIIS (avionics development and integration), TsIAM (aircraft power plants), VIAM (structural materials), LII (flight test and flight test methodology), along with a number of specialized R&D institutions.
