RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT CORPORATION "MIG"
- corporation for the future of Russia

Upgrades for Earlier-generation Fighters

Fighters developed and manufactured by MiG Corp. in the 1960s and 1970s continue to be successfully operated by numerous air forces. Having undergone upgrade programs and given additional capabilities, these aircraft are able to respond to existing threats and provide effective solutions to meet air force requirements.

The MiG-21 Family of Fighter Aircraft

MiG Corp. is justifiably proud of the MiG-21 and the development history of this renowned fighter. During a period of 28 years, the aircraft was manufactured in 30 versions at three USSR plants as well as at three foreign facilities. The MiG 21 has seen service with 49 air forces worldwide. Its excellent combat characteristics enable the aircraft to remain a viable fighter in a number of roles. MiG Corp., together with the Sokol Nizhny Novgorod-based aircraft manufacturing plant (which was the primary MiG-21 manufacturer in the USSR when series production ended), have developed an extensive modernization program for the MiG-21 family.

The MiG-21 family’s modernization program is aimed at expanding its weapon delivery capability. The upgrades allow these proven combat aircraft to be operated successfully by air forces worldwide for years to come.

The MiG-23/MiG-27 Combat Aircraft Family

The MiG-23 and MiG-27 family of variable-sweep wing tactical fighters and strike aircraft was manufactured in several versions during the 1970s and 1980s by several USSR plants. They are in service with air forces of a dozen countries and are manufactured under license in India with the support of Russia's Irkutsk-based IAPO aircraft plant

At various stages throughout their operating lifetime, MiG-23s and MiG-27s have undergone upgrade programs that have resulted in significant improvements to their combat and operational characteristics. The MiG-23/27 aircraft remain viable, highly effective platforms that are ready for further evolution. MiG Corp. is developing a special MiG-27 modernization program in cooperation with the Irkutsk-based aircraft manufacturing plant to meet the specific requirements of a number of key customers.

The MiG-25 Interceptor and Reconnaissance Aircraft

The MiG-25 interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft was widely acknowledged as a highly advanced system when it was developed in the mid 1960s. Today, the MiG-25 still has unsurpassed climb capabilities, speed and altitude characteristics. Throughout its life, the MiG-25 avionics suite has been repeatedly and radically improved to provide the aircraft with enhanced combat capabilities.

The MiG-31 Long Range Interceptor

Developed as major modification and derivative of the MiG-25, the MiG-31 long-range, two-seat fighter-interceptor not only retained the best features of the MiG-25 family but also dramatically increased its combat capabilities. The aircraft is powered by fuel-efficient D-30F turbofan and is equipped with a sophisticated weapons control system providing simultaneous tracking of several aerial threats with follow-on attack using long-range air-to-air missiles. The MiG-31 is capable of exchanging combat data between aircraft and efficiently of operating in groups during combat missions.
