MAKS Presentation: Spase & Rocketry

What is the International Aviation & Space Salon MAKS?

The space and rocketry section of the MAKS air show is always of interest to both national and foreign experts. On the one hand, import systems and components are widely used in the creation of Russian spacecraft. On the other hand, a great deal of Russian advanced developments attract foreign customers. Besides, Russia offers services of placing satellites into orbit, including the case of the latter being additional payload.

Russia takes an active part in international space programmes. This can be illustrated by the assembly of the International Space Station, as well as the Sea Launch project, and the Rokot programme being implemented by Russian-German venture Eurockot Launch Services GmbH that was created by the Khrunichev State Scientific and Production Centre (GKNPTs) and DASA.

In 2001 the 'stars' of the MAKS will be such up-and-commg launch vehicles as Angara, Strela, Rokot, Dnepr, and the Air Launch complex providing a start of a launch vehicle from an An-124 aircraft. The NIEM research institute will exhibit its new development - the Meteor-3M spacecraft equipped with a universal satellite orbit separation system for accompanying microsatellites 30-50 kg heavy.

At the MAKS`2001 the latest developments will be exhibited dealing with the creation of hypersonic aircraft. The Gromov Flight Research Institute in co-operation with the TslAM Central Aero Engines-building Institute will introduce an air launch hypersonic flying test-bed, and the Soyuz Design Bureau will display its experimental hypersonic module.

It is planned to widely cover the process of assembling the International Space Station that is now being jointly constructed by many countries. By the time the MAKS'2001 air show is held, its main units will have already been operating in orbit.
