The chopper is intended to airlift cargoes and passengers. It can also be employed in geological exploration and oil-production, as an ambulance and a corporative transport, in SAR operations, on patrol, aerial photography and many other missions.

A variety of combat-role modifications can be derived.
The helicopter is being developed to satisfy the AP-29 (FAR-20, JAR-29) requiments. One of its peculiar features is its considerably more effective safety as compared to the existing helicopters. Low operating costs and on-condition maitatnce are sure to make the chopper most compatitive in today’s market.
Mi-54 is a classical configuration with four-blade main rotor and x-shapped tail one. When developing the aircraft, designers focused on improvement of aerodynamics and reduction of noise. otor blades are glass-fibre-reinforced plastic. The new design of the main and tail rotor shafts features no lubrication points. There are wide entrances behind the sliding doors on both sides of the cargo cabin, to the rear of which a large luggage compartment and equipment compartment are located. The chopper has a triycle nose-wheel landing gear. Mi-54 will feature the most sophisticated equpment required by both military and commercial customers.
