In 1990 the elaboration of the rnulti - channel mobile military air defense missile system of the third generation `URAL` was accomplished, which was intended for air defense forces, military rear objects and objects at the territory of the `URAL` provided the hitting of strategic and tactical airplanes, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise and air missiles, helicopters, including hover ones, in conditions of intensive radio and weapon counteraction of the enemy, The use of the phased array in the radar complex allowed the self - propelled fir-ing unit to work simultaneously on four targets, and the whole complex to work on twenty four targets. The unusual design decision of the guidance and illumination radar, the 21 meter ascent of the antenna post, gave the opportunity to extend the detection range of low - flying targets up to 30 - 40 kilometers, The elaboration of `URAL` and `BUK M1 - 2` was held under supervision of chief designer E.A.Pigin
