The important part in the weapon systems of the Ground and Air Forces air defense missile complexes is the radar seeker, being a basic control element of a missile. l.G.Akopian was head of the elaboration work of the radar seeker. Perfectly prepared and energetic he was appointed chief designer of all arrays elaborated in the Institute. A number of principal technical problems was solved during the elaboration of the radar seeker. The main ones were: continuous radiation use for the provision of moving targets selection under semi - active guidance of the missile, small mass and size characteristics, radar seeker vibration stability under impact load, operability in a wide temperature range, in conditions of high humidity, and also, long storage in field conditions with the provision of requested reliability. Further on, the radar seekers of all created in the Institute complexes were updated, mainly in extension of the hitting zone, jam - proof and elemental base development, improvement of operating characteristics. Eleven types of radar seekers were elaborated, nine of which have been accepted for armament
