Born Febrary 24, 1942 in the stanitsa (village) of Atamanskaya, District Pavlovsky, Krasnodar Region. From 1949 to 1959 went to the secondary school at Atamanskaya. From 1959 to 1960 - Trade School No8 student at Rostov-on-Don. From 1961 to 1964 - active service with the Soviet Army. From 1965 to 1971 - night classes in engineering techniques, machine tools and tools with Rostov Agricultural Engineering Institute, qualified as mechanical engineer.
Married to Valentina Alexandrovna Sliussar (maiden name Shmakova), born in 1945, has a daughter of 34 and son of 29.

- Labour Valour medal awarded by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of USSR on 10.03.1981.
- 300th Anniversary of Russian Navy medal awarded by the Russian president on 07.06.1998.
- Medal of For Services to Fatherland order of class II awarded by the presidential decree on 01.07.1999 for significant contribution to the domestic helicopter industry.
- Tsiolkovsky Star medal numbered 334 awarded by the Russian Aerospace Agency for his significant personal contribution to the development of the aerospace industry.
