KAMOV Switch to Russian

оглавление

KAMOV - is  the  largest  Russian's   firm  specializing  for  battle   hellicopters  and  helicopters of civil aviation.

DATES AND HISTORY

Kamov Company originated from an experimental autogyro production plant, which was organized in 1940 in the Moscow Region. In the year 1943, during the Second World War, the plant was closed down. In 1948 a new design bureau headed by N.I.

of KAMOV mr. S.Miheev.

Kamov was created with the task of developing helicopters for the Navy. Today the design bureau develops experimental and prototype rotorcraft, makes helicopter modifications and produces in quantities some of the types.

The first product of the design bureau was Ka-10 super - light helicopter (1949) for the Navy, which laid the basis for co-axial helicopters in the country. This year is rightfully considered to be the birthday of the navy aviation.
Increased scope and complexity of the aviation tasks required the development of Ka-15 (1953), Ka-15M (1956), combat Ka-25 (1961), Ka-27 (1973) and Ka-28; transport-combat Ka-29 (1976) and radar - patrol Ka-31 (1987).

Ka-15 started the era of practical operation of coaxial helicopters in the USSR.Ka-15 and its upgrades have stayed on duty in the Navy and civil aviation for over 20 years.

Ka-25 is the ship-based helicopter. Its main role is the destruction of nuclear submarines. This helicopter became the milestone in the formation of the OKB and ship-borne aviation. 18 upgraded versions were built, the helicopters were exported to India, Syria, Bulgaria, Vietnam and Yugoslavia, and participated in mine-clearing of the Suez Canal. Ka-25 has stayed on duty in the Navy over 30 year.

Starting from the 80s the military portfolio of the company has been enlarged and included the development programs of combat assault rotorcraft for the Land Forces and special-purpose helicopters for the law-enforcement departments. The experience gained on the combat navy helicopters projects and unique qualities of the co-axial configuration created powerful capability of the company and enabled the development of Ка-50 army helicopter - the leader among the world fighter helicopters.

Ка-50 "Black Shark" has passed stringent tests in conditions close to combat ones. The helicopter became the winner in the competition opened by the Ministry of Defense having fulfilled to the full the military requirements. In 1995 the helicopter was adopted for service in the Russian army and is in the series production by Arseniev aviation production enterprise "Progress". To expand the fighting capabilities of the basic aircraft a fully night-capable version has been developed.

To a considerable extend the combat success of a fighter helicopter group depends on the level of coordination between each helicopter in a group, as well as on the reliability of group control by the group commander.
In comparison with other helicopters of the group, the command helicopter should be equipped with the up-to-date avionics package giving the pilot better target view on the battlefield, allowing him to designate and to distribute targets, to maintain continuous control of other helicopters and communication link with the ground control post. Ка-52 "Alligator" - a multipurpose all-weather two-seater, is the helicopter for these particular objectives.

For speedy delivery for airborne landing groups, arms and ammunition to the combat area, for evacuation of wounded and victims and for pilot training Kamov Company offers a multi-role Ка-60 helicopter. In its structure it incorporates design solutions which have been tested in Ка-50. On-board Ка-60 avionics suite allows 1-2 pilots to perform a combat task in daytime and at night, in VFR and IFR conditions. The armed version of the helicopter is powered with guns and rockets.

For specific tasks of law enforcement departments the fast-reaction Ka-32A2 helicopter was developed in 1995. New-generation helicopters like remotely piloted Ka-137, single -engine multi-purpose Ка-115 and twin-engine Ка-226 and Ка-62 are capable to solve a broad range of tasks.

Civil projects of the company have stable growing tendency. Civil helicopters of the company were borne from Ka-15 and its upgrades: Ka-15M and Ka-18. From 1963 to 1969 newly designed rotor blades made from polymeric composites were tested and introduced into operation on the helicopters of this type. The blades featured higher aerodynamic quality and service life.
For civil operators multi-purpose Ka-26 (1965), Ka-32 (1980), Ka-126 (1987), Ка-32А (1990), fire-fighting Ka-32A1 were built.Ka-26 is the only helicopter in the former USSR, which has received FAA type certificate.

Over 850 machines of the type were produced. The helicopter was exported to 17 countries.
Ка-32А was also the first of Russian helicopters to receive (in 1993) the national certificate of compliance with the Russian airworthiness standards, adequate to American FAR-29 and FAR-33, categories B and A. In 1996 Ka-32A12 helicopter was certified in Switzerland.Ka-32 set up 7 world records.

In may 1998, having fulfilled the required scope of certification works and tests, the Ministry of Transport Canada issued type certificates for Ka-32A11BC helicopter and TV3-117VMA engine. The certificates will allow to operate Ка-32А helicopters in Canada and other countries, which recognize Federal Aviation Requirements (FAR) of USA, and to promote the helicopter on the international market.
