Description
System of fuel tanks pressurization with inert gas is designed for aircraft protection against fire or explosion by reduction of oxygen concentration to the safe value.
Nitrogen is used as inert gas.
This system supports the following functions:
- storage of liquid nitrogen on board in liquid nitrogen converters;
- liquid nitrogen gasification and supply to aircraft fuel tanks in gaseous state through venting tank;
- automatic control according to preset law, pressure and content of gaseous nitrogen supplying to aircraft venting tank;
- fuel, nitrogen and air vapours release from fuel tank through venting tank at pressure increase above the preset value;
- automatic control of air pressure and air content flowing through venting tank to fuel tanks out of atmosphere or air conditioning system after utilization of nitrogen reserve.
This system includes the main units:
- liquid nitrogen converters for nitrogen supply to usable manifolds;
- nitrogen-fuel evaporating heat exchangers for gasification and reheating nitrogen supplying to fuel tanks, thanks to heat exchange with fuel;
- pressurization units for pressure control in venting tank according to the preset law;
- vent-safety valves for fuel tanks protection against destruction in case of not allowable pressure increase or depression;
- fixture, automatic control and warning devices.
Liquid nitrogen content in the system is controlled at filling with the help of ground control panel.
