SAU-451-05SMT (UBT) AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM

This digital automatic flight control system is developed for providing the updated MIG-29-SMT (UBT) Fighter with manual, automatic and flight-director control for all its operating conditions, increased flight safety, and stability and controllability characteristics augmentation; it also performs the following functions:

 

• automatic and flight-director aircraft control during landing approach down to an altitude of 50m;

• damping regime with stability and control characteristics support;

• pilot all-maneuverable aircraft control via the control stick upon operating dampers with stabilization of roll and pitch angles when the stick is released by roll and pitch;

• recovery of an aircraft to level flight from any spatial attitude;

• stabilization of attitudes and barometric altitude during a whole range of aircraft operation;

• automatic and flight-director withdrawal from dangerous small altitudes via the radio altimeter signal;

• trimming upon manual roll and pitch control;

• carrying out of pre-flight test-checks;

• “Refueling damper” mode.

 

Application of the VU-222-05SMT (UBT) digital computers as a main part of the AFCS and manufactured on the base of Russian circuitry allows the following functions to be performed in addition to the SAU-451 analog version functions upon a reduction of weight and an increase of operating characteristics:

• automatic and flight-director control using “Route” and “Return” modes;

• increase of stability and controllability at high angles of attack;

• continuous monitoring of rudder servo serviceability, longitudinal stability augmenter channel and  ailerons retuning;

• system servicing without using checkout equipment;

• generation of given ny, that is limited in automatic modes depending on suspension type.
