The G4DSP 6U-VME DSP series incorporates 4x MPC-7410
(with AltiVec) compute nodes to provide an extremely powerful
signal processing engine. By providing multi GFLOPs
performance, the G4DSP suits applications where the highest
levels of DSP performance are required such as RADAR, SONAR
and other signal processing applications.
The G4DSP is available in 5 ruggedization levels for Industrial or
Extended Temperature, Shock and Vibration environments in
either Air-Blown or Conduction-cooled formats with full
software compatibility between ruggedization levels.
Each of the four MPC-7410 (G4) compute nodes is comprised of
256 Mbytes SDRAM, 16 Mbytes FLASH, 2 Mbytes L2 Cache
and an IBM-CPC710 64 bit/66 MHz PCI bridge. By providing
each G4 compute node with it’s own 64 bit /66 MHz PCI bridge
and not sharing it with other G4 compute nodes each node’s PCI
bandwidth is optimized. Additionally, each G4 compute node
uses it’s processor bus independently (not shared). Again, this
maximizes processor I/O bandwidth, lowers latencies and
optimizes overall processor performance.
On-board inter-node communications are achieved through a
loosely coupled, multiple 64 bit/66 MHz PCI bus architecture.
This architecture accommodates a common shared memory area
for low-level message passing (supporting VxMP and VPSWorks),
and a compute node shared memory area for fast node-to-node
communications where each compute node has a unique shared
memory area with each of its neighbors.
This innovative architecture is made possible by the use of nontransparent
PCI-to-PCI bridges and PCI memory mapping
resulting in very fast and efficient multi-processing that doesn’t
inhibit PCI bus performance. The G4-DSP provides 2x
independent 64 bit, 66 MHz PMC sites for data acquisition and
multi-board connectivity. These PMC sites will accommodate
industry standard PMC modules from Radstone or third-parties.
Additionally, the G4DSP provides a 32 bit /33 Mhz P0 PCI
master/slave interface and VME64.
As with the hardware architecture, software support is also open
standard to protect software investment and ease development.
The G4-DSP supports VxWorks and VxMP, ChaMPIon/RT and
VSI/Pro (on top of VxWorks) from MPI Software Technology
and WindRiver Systems VSPWorksTM DSP RTOS. This is backed
up by Radstone’s Built-In-Test (BIT) and driver support for
PowerPC SBCs under VxWorks.
