The Boeing Company is the world’s leading aerospace company, with its heritage mirroring the history of flight. It is the largest manufacturer of satellites, commercial jetliners and military aircraft. The company is also a global market leader in missile defense, human space flight and launch services. In terms of sales, Boeing is the largest U.S. exporter. Total company revenues for 2002 were $54.1 billion.

Boeing continues to expand its product line and develop new technologies to meet customer needs. From creating new versions of its family of commercial airplanes; to developing, producing, supporting and modifying aircraft for the U.S. military; to building launch vehicles capable of lifting more than 14 tons into orbit; to improving communications for people around the world through an advanced network of satellites, Boeing continues a long tradition of technical excellence and innovation.

Boeing employs close to 156,000 people, in more than 70 countries and 38 states within the U.S., with major operations in the Puget Sound area of Washington state; Southern California; Wichita, Kansas; and St. Louis, Missouri. The global reach of the Chicago-based company includes customers in 145 countries.

Boeing is organized into five major units: Air Traffic Management, Boeing Capital Corporation, Commercial Airplanes, Connexion by Boeing, and Integrated Defense Systems. In addition, its Shared Services Group provides common services and efficient infrastructure services that enable the company’s business units to concentrate on profitable growth, and Phantom Works, which provides advanced research and development, working with business units to identify their technology needs and addressing them with innovative, affordable solutions.

Boeing has been the world leader in commercial jetliners for more than 40 years. With the McDonnell Douglas merger in 1997, Boeing’s legacy of leadership in commercial jets now is joined with the lineage of Douglas airplanes, giving the combined company a 70-year heritage of leadership in commercial aviation. Today, the main commercial products consist of the 717, 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 families of airplanes, and the Boeing Business Jet. New product development efforts are focused on the Boeing 7E7, a super-efficient airplane that is expected to be in service in 2008. The company has more than 14,000 commercial jetliners in service worldwide, which is roughly 75 percent of the world fleet. And through Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, the company provides unsurpassed, round-the-clock technical support to help operators maintain their airplanes in peak operating conditions and offers a full range of world-class engineering, modification, logistics and information services to its global customer base, which includes the world’s passenger and cargo airlines as well as maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities. Boeing also provides training for maintenance and flight crews in the 100-seat-and-above airliner market through Alteon, the world’s largest and most comprehensive airline-training provider.

Boeing Integrated Defense Systems provides end-to-end services for large-scale systems that combine sophisticated communications networks with air, land, sea and space-based platforms for global military, government and commercial customers. The company offers an extraordinary range of defense and space systems products and services. It designs, produces, modifies and supports fighters, bombers, transports, rotorcraft, aerial refuelers, missiles and munitions and is on the leading edge of military technology through its unmanned systems development efforts. Boeing Integrated Defense Systems also supports the U.S. government on several programs of national significance, including the Missile Defense Agency’s Ground-Based Midcourse Defense program, the National Reconnaissance Office’s Future Imagery Architecture, the Air Force’s Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program and NASA’s International Space Station. The company recently became the systems integrator for several new programs, including the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems and Joint Tactical Radio Systems, FAB-T, and the Explosive Detection Systems for the Department of Transportation.

Shared Services Group allows business units to focus on profitable growth by providing the infrastructure services required to run their global operations. The group provides a broad range of services worldwide, including computing and network operations, e-business, facilities services, employee benefits and programs, security, transportation, and the purchase of all non-production goods and services. It also gives direction to safety, health and environmental planning and offers comprehensive travel services to Boeing employees and corporate customers through the Boeing Travel Management Company. In addition, Shared Services Group manages the sale and acquisition of all leased and owned property through the Boeing Realty Company. By integrating services, they deliver greater value, create ”lean” processes and operations, leverage buying power and simplify access to services.

Connexion by Boeing provides high-speed, two-way Internet, data and streaming audio and video content to aircraft in flight. The service is currently available to the private business jet market in the U.S. The first commercial installation is now complete and service demonstrations are underway with Lufthansa and will soon begin with British Airways. In addition, Japan Airlines has announced its intent to install the Connexion by Boeing service on 10 of its long-range aircraft and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has demonstrated similar intent. The Connexion by Boeing service provides airline personnel with information that will enhance operational efficiency on the ground and in the air. Customer airplanes will be equipped with the Boeing proprietary phased array receive and transmit antenna - a key enabler for two-way broadband communications. Specifically, Connexion by Boeing will serve two-market segments: commercial airlines and their passengers, and executive business jets, including those operated by government customers.

Air Traffic Management is developing an integrated approach to address what passengers want - convenient, safe, reliable and affordable air travel. Satellite communications, global navigation systems and sophisticated software offer promising opportunities to create a safer, higher-capacity air traffic management system. These technologies enable the system to know where every airplane is and to accurately predict where it will be in the future, allowing for timely conflict resolution. Built into the system are many significant aviation security enhancements. Trajectory-based operations, together with a common information network, will enable multiple entities--from air traffic controllers, regulatory agencies and airline operations centers, to law enforcement and the military--to instantly collaborate and rapidly respond to in-flight emergencies or deviations from intended flight paths.

Boeing Capital Corporation is a global, full-service financier, providing financing and leasing solutions for commercial aircraft, commercial equipment, executive aircraft, and defense and space-based products. Boeing Capital Corporation has been a provider of equipment and aircraft financing for more than 34 years, and continues to grow both prudently and profitably. With a portfolio of more than $11.7 billion, Boeing Capital Corporation combines financial strength and global reach with a seasoned group of finance professionals armed with detailed customer knowledge and focus, uncommon equipment insight and the ability to craft creative financing solutions.
