Main Guidelines of "Sukhoi" Activity: Status and Future Trends

"Sukhoi" company considers the International Exhibition "MAKS-2003" as a great opportunity to represent its activity guidelines to the Exhibition participants, guests, specialists and mass media representatives in full and more detail.

Taking into account the number of important for the company events happened since the previous "MAKS-2001", the company leadership considers nowadays the following trends to be of a priority:

1. Restructuring of State Unitary Enterprise Aviation Military Industrial Corporation (SUE AMIC) "Sukhoi" and creation on its basis of JSC "Sukhoi Aviation Holding Company " as per the Decree of President of the Russian Federation .

The process of SUE AMIC "Sukhoi" restructuring has now been approaching its practical completion. The aircraft production associations in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Novosibirsk, that belong to "Sukhoi" Corporation, have been already functioning as Joint Stock Companies. Ministry of Properties of Russia has recently issued the instruction on privatization terms of SUE AMIC "Sukhoi". It means that JSC AHC "Sukhoi" - one of the biggest research-and-production integrated structure in the domestic aviation industry - will start functioning by the beginning of September having 100% of state ownership and annual turnover over $ 1.000.000.000.

2. Program of creation of the Russian fighter of the 5th generation.

On the results of the conducted contest the Government of the Russian Federation announced SUE AMIC "Sukhoi" in April 2002 as the leading executor of the program of creation of the Russian fighter of the 5th generation and "Sukhoi" Design Bureau as the leading executor of the experimental-design development.

The Russian Government has approved in the end of 2002 the integrated program of creation of a perspective combat aviation complex, conducting of experimental-design works and confirmed the commissions of the main executors.

In March 2003 the contest on defining of the manufacturers of the main avionics systems (radar, electronic warfare, optic and computation system, navigation and communication system) was completed .

In March 2003 the Russian Air Force handed to "Sukhoi" Design Bureau the Technical Assignment on conducting of experimental-design works for the creation of the new fighter, in July 2003 the state contract on its development was given and coordinated. Basing on it "Sukhoi" Design Bureau" has been working actively at a sketch design of the new aircraft. The sketch project upholding is planned for the beginning of the year 2004. On the result of it the Technical Assignment and the Program of the aviation complex creation will be corrected.

3. Program of Su-32 strike complex creation.

In 2003 the significant stage of the new strike complex Su-32 trials is completed. Su-32 strike complex is created in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and the preliminary customer certificate on the aircraft serial production and its operation in the Russian Air Force military units is received. Number of innovations tested on Su-32 will be implemented in the program of the fighter of the 5th generation.

4. Modification of "Su" combat aircraft complexes.

"Sukhoi" company has been completing trials of Su-24M front bomber, Su-25SM attack aircraft and Su-27SM fighter as per the assignments of Ministry of Defense on "Su" combat aircraft modification.

Such modification will enlarge the area of combat application of those aircraft. Particularly, Su-24M front bomber will possess the increased accuracy of bombing, its arsenal will be supplemented with modern guided "air-to-air" munition.

Modified Su-25SM attack aircraft will be able to use non-guided high precision munition, will be distinguished by the increased survivability in air and enlarged number of high-precision munition.

Su-27SM fighter will develop its operation capabilities that will increase its performance both in air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

5. Export potential.

During the meeting with pressmen in the end of 2002 the General Director of the company Mikhail Pogosyan confirmed that in 2003 he expected the significant expansion of market area for "Su" aircraft delivery. This forecast started to come true in the first half of the year after "Rosoboronexport" had signed two contracts on "Su" aircraft delivery to Indonesia and Malaysia to the total sum of more than $1.000.000.000. At that, the Malaysian contract appeared to be significant for our country so that it was signed in Kuala Lumpur in the presence of President of the Russian Federation - Mr. V.Putin. So, Indonesia becomes the 29th and Malaysia - the 30th country whereto "Sukhoi" company will deliver its aircraft. During the year 2002 over 60 aircraft were delivered abroad, the share of "Sukhoi" company in the total Russian armament export volume forms more than 30%.

6. Integrated Logistic Support System for "Su" aircraft.

On the 15th of October, 2002 "Sukhoi" company had received per the instruction of Government of the Russian Federation the right to provide integrated logistic support for "Su" aircraft on its own which includes spare parts delivery, works on technical support and repair.

The measures developed and realized in this sphere had already assisted the company in signing of the contracts on the aircraft repair, aircraft equipment delivery and service support.

7. "Sukhoi" civil programs.

The company leadership has been carrying out the work on diversification of the production activity due to entry to the civil aircraft market. According to the opinion of Mikhail Pogosyan, General Director of the company, proportion 50:50 could provide its firm development.

The most important civil program of the company nowadays is the family of regional passenger aircraft (RRJ), that has been being realized in the frames of the international cooperation with the companies "Ilyushin", "Yakovlev", "Saturn", "Boeing", "Snecma". In March, 2003 the program RRJ was announced the winner in the state contest on regional aircraft, and entered in the Federal program "Development of Civil Aircraft in Russia in 2002-2010 and up to 2015".

In the frameworks of civil themes the company will continue its work on development of the family of aerobatic aircraft Su-26, Su-29, Su-31, the amphibian aircraft Be-103, project of cargo-passenger aircraft Su-80 and agricultural aircraft Su-38L.

8. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).

The development of UAV market has activated the research work of "Sukhoi" company on the creation of "Su" unmanned aerial vehicle. Nowadays the designers of "Sukhoi" Design Bureau" took up the practical development of unmanned aerial vehicles of various goals - UAV-1, UAV-2 and UAV-3. "Sukhoi" leadership considers it possible that UAV theme will become in future one of the company's priority trends.
