Thales Group selected to provide security solutions for sensitive sites across Lille metropolitan area

The metropolitan authority of greater Lille in northern France has embarked on a vast urban security project to protect more than twenty-five sensitive sites across the city and its suburbs, including drinking water and wastewater treatment plants, decentralised territorial units and the Villeneuve d\'Ascq modern art museum. This is the most extensive urban security project ever launched in France and reflects the Government\'s commitment to step up security at sensitive sites.
Work will be carried out in three phases:
° An initial phase to provide security for the central offices of the metropolitan authority (Communauté Urbaine de Lille) and for decentralised territorial units,
° A second phase to provide security for the Villeneuve d\'Ascq modern art museum and various water production and treatment plants,
° A final phase to provide security for crematoriums and wastewater treatment plants.
The Thales solution comprises access control equipment with badge readers at all sites, intrusion detection systems, a videosurveillance network and a supervision and control centre.

Thales is responsible for designing the overall architecture and for subsequent equipment integration, configuration, commissioning and training of operational and maintenance personnel. A local partner will install equipment and supply videosurveillance and communication equipment.

Installed at the authority\'s central offices, the supervision and control centre will manage all videosurveillance, access control, intrusion detection and alarm functions. It will include a video wall, Thales-developed supervisor workstations and a video recording system for image processing and analysis.

During the initial phase, the system will monitor several hundred intrusion control points. This will increase to several thousand control points once full-scale rollout is complete.

"We have already used Thales equipment for the access control system at the Euralliance building," said Francis Wavrant, Head of Reception, Maintenance and Security Services of the metropolitan authority. "The current project is on a much larger scale. We worked with a specialist consultancy to draw up the technical requirements, which are particularly stringent. Thales\' bid met those requirements perfectly."

"Lille is the first of France\'s thirteen metropolitan authorities to adopt this type of security system," says Pierre Maciejowski, Managing Director of Thales\' Security Systems. "We\'re honoured to have been selected to carry out such an important site surveillance and protection project, which will undoubtedly serve as a valuable reference for other metropolitan areas in the future."
