Brief history

NIAT was organised on the basis of Central Institute of Labour (CIT) which had been established on September 20, 1920 as the academic body for studies on labour process and productivity enhancement. By that time CIT already included production equipment design office. Main attention of the 30-s was concentrated on the aviation industry. In 1944 the Institute became the Research and Development Institute of Aviation Technologies and Production Organisation. Since 1994 it is a joint stock company `National Institute of Aviation Technologies`.
For 80 years of activities NIAT has gone a long way of development, starting from studies on manual riveting techniques and up to the creation of unique technologies applied in manufacture of such aircraft as Tu-204, IL-96-300, Su-27, MIG-29, helicopters Ка-50, Мi-28, `Buran` spacecraft and other airspace equipment. Today NIAT is the strategic partner of Sukhoi Design Bureau in development of 5-th generation fighter technologies and specialised equipment and a partner of MIG Design Bureau in launching production of Tu-334 and Ка-60 helicopter. Under the guidance of NIAT the Russian Federation machine-tool construction industry development concept has been prepared.
